President Lee Jae-myung will fly to Malaysia on Oct. 26 to attend a regional summit of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), marking his first visit to Southeast Asia since taking office in June, National Security Adviser Wi Sung-lac said on Oct. 24.
While attending the ASEAN summit, President Lee plans to discuss ways to enhance South Korea's Comprehensive Strategic Partnership with the 10-member bloc, said Wi.
On Oct. 27, Lee will outline his vision for strengthening cooperation with the regional bloc during the ASEAN summit and then participate in the ASEAN Plus Three summit involving South Korea, Japan and China.
President Lee will hold talks with Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet on Oct. 27 to discuss the strategic partnership between the nations and pending issues, including online scam crimes, Wi said.
Lee is also scheduled to meet with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim to discuss ways to deepen the strategic partnership and strengthen practical cooperation in trade, investment, infrastructure and the defense industry.
Meanwhile, President Lee Jae Myung will hold summit talks with U.S. President Donald Trump on Oct. 29 and summit talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping on Nov. 1 in Gyeongju, the venue for the APEC gathering, Wi told reporters.
Preparations are also under way for summit talks between Lee and Japan's new Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi during the APEC gathering, Wi said.
