Seoul Plaza came alive with the colors, sounds, and flavors of Peru during the “Peru Day” celebration held on September 20 and 21. The event was organized in collaboration with the Embassy of Peru in Korea as part of the “Outdoor Library” program hosted annually by the Seoul Metropolitan Library.

The Peruvian Pavilion transformed Seoul Plaza into a lively cultural space where thousands of visitors of all ages experienced Peru’s rich heritage through a variety of engaging activities designed for both children and adults. Visitors painted Ayacucho retablos and customized bags featuring designs of Machu Picchu, Pucará bulls, and alpacas.

Guests also enjoyed readings of Peruvian children’s books in Korean, tried on traditional costumes, and explored a virtual tour of Machu Picchu using VR headsets. A photo zone showcasing famous Peruvian landmarks and the tasting of Peruvian snacks completed the experience.

In addition to the interactive pavilion, audiences were treated to outstanding live performances throughout the weekend. On Saturday, the well-known ensemble “Peru Latin”, composed of three Peruvian musicians residing in Korea, performed an energetic concert of Andean music. On both days, the Cultural Association C.I.D.A.N. “Mi Perú” made its debut appearance at Seoul Plaza, captivating the audience with traditional dances and songs from various regions of Peru.

The group, which also performed at the opening of the “Peru Week on Nami Island” and participated in the Cheonan World Dance Festival and Yeongdong World Traditional Music & Arts Expo, traveled to Seoul especially for the occasion thanks to the coordination of the Embassy of Peru.

The Ambassador of Peru to the Republic of Korea remarked, “Events like this allow us to share the warmth, creativity, and diversity of the Peruvian spirit with the Korean public and strengthen the friendship that unites our peoples. We are proud to bring a piece of Peru to the heart of Seoul”.

The Peruvian Pavilion attracted significant attention and praise throughout the two-day event. Organizers estimated that approximately 5,000 visitors gathered at Seoul Plaza over the weekend, taking part in the wide range of cultural activities and performances that celebrated the enduring friendship between Peru and Korea.
