Foreign Minister Cho Hyun held his first telephone conversation with Iranian Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi on September 19.

Minister Araghchi congratulated Minister Cho on his inauguration and praised the friendly relations between the two countries.

Minister Cho expressed his agreement and suggested close communication between the two sides. The two ministers also exchanged views on the issue of reinstating sanctions against Iran, which is scheduled for a vote by the UN Security Council.

Minister Cho explained that South Korea, as the UN Security Council chair in September, has been following the procedures set forth in the council's resolutions.

He expressed his hope that all relevant parties will continue their efforts to find a diplomatic solution through dialogue and negotiation, as the diplomatic window for resolving the issue remains open.

The two ministers agreed to pursue a bilateral meeting in New York during the UN General Assembly High-Level Week to discuss bilateral relations.
