Kim Seok-ki, chairman of the National Assembly Foreign Affairs and Unification Committee, met with Ambassador Dumitru Socolan of Moldova to South Korea at the National Assembly on June 11 and exchanged opinions on the need to expand high-level exchanges to promote relations between the two countries and ways to strengthen cooperation between the two countries in various fields.

Ambassador Socolan expressed his hope that the Moldovan Embassy in South Korea would be established, given that cooperation between the two countries has been strengthened in various fields since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1992.

Chairman Kim also said, “The economic cooperation agreement between the two countries will serve as an institutional foundation for revitalizing trade and investment,” adding, “I hope that the agreement will be concluded smoothly in the second half of this year.”

The two sides also discussed support from the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) in light of Moldova's role as a host country for refugees amid the aftermath of the Ukraine-Russia war.

Ambassador Socolan said, “We hope that Moldova will play a pivotal role in the post-war reconstruction of Ukraine.”
