The East Sea Regional Coast Guard Headquarters announced that it held a working-level meeting at the Indonesian Embassy in Korea on Nov. 24 to discuss crime prevention and cooperation measures for foreign seafarers.

This meeting was requested by the East Sea Coast Guard in response to the growing need for information exchange on crime prevention and human rights policies, particularly given the high proportion of Indonesian nationals among foreign seafarers working on the East Coast amid increasing attention to the human rights of foreign workers.

The meeting discussed sharing key cases for preventing crimes involving Indonesian sailors, introducing Coast Guard policies to eradicate human rights violations, and establishing a hotline for rapid response to incidents and accidents, including rescues.

An official from the Indonesian Embassy in Korea stated, “The crime prevention leaflets and content on eradicating human rights violations produced by the Coast Guard will be very useful,” adding, “We will actively share them with Indonesian fishing crew members.”

Kim Seong-jong, Commissioner of the East Sea Regional Coast Guard, said, “We plan to further develop our cooperative framework with the Indonesian Embassy in Korea to help foreign workers prevent crime and human rights violations.”
