Janis Berzins, Latvian Ambassador to South Korea, made an official visit to Dongducheon City, the city announced on June 25.

This visit was arranged in connection with the special exhibition “Latvian Soldiers Who Participated in the Korean War,” which has been ongoing at the Dongducheon Freedom and Peace Museum since March.

The exhibition highlights the historical fact that Latvia participated in the Korean War and introduces the records and dedication of Latvian soldiers who participated in the war.

After viewing the exhibition, Ambassador Janis Berzins had a conversation with Dongducheon City Mayor Park Hyung-deok. He emphasized the historical ties between the two countries, saying, “I am deeply grateful to Dongducheon City for providing an opportunity to introduce the historical connection between Latvia and South Korea.”

In commemoration of the ambassador's official visit, Dongducheon City presented him with a meaningful souvenir symbolizing the history and culture of the region, which was carefully packaged at a workshop in Bosan-dong.

The souvenir expressed the city's gratitude to Latvia for its contribution to protecting the freedom and peace of South Korea as a participant in the Korean War, as well as its desire to promote friendly cooperation between the two countries.

Mayor Park Hyung-deok said, “It was a meaningful time to reflect on Latvia’s participation in the Korean War at this museum commemorating freedom and peace,” adding, “I hope this ambassador’s visit will serve as a catalyst for promoting cultural exchange between the two countries.”
