Yeoju City Mayor Lee meets with Greek Amb. to Korea Loukas Tsokos

They visited the Greek military memorial in Yeoju City

Mayor Lee Chung-woo of Yeoju City met with the new Greek Ambassador to Korea, Loukas Tsokos, who visited Yeoju City on Feb. 10, to discuss the promotion of a sister city relationship between the Greek city of Papagou and Yeoju City. After the meeting, they visited the Greek military memorial.

 

The new Greek Ambassador to Korea and his wife, as well as the Greek defense attaché to Korea, Archbishop of the Orthodox Archdiocese of Korea, and Gyeonggi Eastern Veterans Affairs Office Director Son Ae-jin were present at the meeting. The visitation ceremony was also attended by heads of eight veterans organizations in Yeoju City, adding to its significance.

 

 

The mayor visited the Greek military memorial, paid tribute to the sacrifices of the Greek soldiers who devoted themselves to the Republic of Korea during the Korean War.

 

Both sides also shared the progress of the sister city relationship between Yeoju City and Papagou City, Greece, scheduled for April, and discussed ways to expand exchanges and cooperation between the two cities.

 

The new Greek Ambassador to Korea said, "Greece and Korea have built a deep relationship of trust over the past 70 years since the participation of Greek troops in the Korean War, and paying respect to the veterans by visiting the Greek War Memorial is one of the most important missions since taking office as the Greek Ambassador to Korea."


Ambassador Loukas Tsokos also promised to actively cooperate in establishing a sister city relationship between Yeoju City and Papagou City, Greece.

 

In response, the mayor said, "Through the visit to the Greek War Memorial, we will look back on the historical relationship between our two countries, and through this sister city agreement, we will continue to strengthen exchanges and cooperation in the future."
